Korean Air plans to keep Asiana Airlines' mileage programme independent for decade after merger

Korean Air said on Tuesday (September 30) it plans to keep Asiana Airlines mileage points independent for 10 years following its acquisition of the latter. The merger is expected to be fully complete by January 1, 2027.

The revised proposal was submitted to the Korea Fair Trade Commission (KFTC) on September 25, 2025, after the commission's request for amendments to the initial plan submitted in June.

Korean Air will also allow Asiana customers to convert their points into Korean Air's SKYPASS mileage programme at a 1:1 ratio for flight miles. For partner programme miles, such as credit card rewards, customers can convert them at 0.82 points per Asiana mile.

The KFTC is now conducting a two-week review of the plan and is collecting public feedback on the proposal before issuing a final approval.
