Korean Air has launched a new aircraft livery and corporate branding, following its merger with fellow South Korean airline Asiana Airlines.
In December 2024, the merger between the two carriers completed after Korean Air paid an additional 800bn Korean won ($559.4 million). This added on to its advance payment of 700bn won ($489.5 million), totalling 1.5 trillion won ($1.05bn). As a result, it acquired a 63.9% stake in the airline.
The merger took nearly four years to be approved, with 14 global competition authorities giving their approval. The US Department of Justice did not seek to block the merger before the deadline, thus confirming the merger could go ahead.
The new airline livery has been added on one of Korean’s 787-10 aircraft, with this new look aircraft scheduled to enter service on a flight from Seoul’s Incheon to Tokyo, on March 12, 2025.
Korean Air's new livery features the word 'KOREAN’, something that the airline said will represent its confidence as Korea's flagship airline.
Chairman of Korean, Cho Won-tae, said: "I believe that Korean Air should now have a greater sense of responsibility as an airline that represents the Republic of Korea in name and reality.
“We will be reborn as a new and wonderful airline that has never been seen in the world by combining the know-how accumulated over a long period of time and fusing cultures by taking advantage of its strengths."
This is also the first time that Korean Air has changed its logo in 41 years.
