Kenya Airways’ in-house maintenance base at Embakasi has received recognition by Embraer as the manufacturer’s 10th global service center, allowing the airline to maintain Embraer aircraft. In May Kenya Airways obtained approval as an Embraer maintenance base from EASA, which paved the way for this announcement. This is now the first Embraer facility in sub-Saharan Africa. Kenyan has traditionally been a Boeing specialist given that the KQ fleet is predominantly Boeing. This move into Embraer aircraft will boost third party appeal while also giving Embraer a far stronger sell to sub-Saharan operators.
