Kenya’s Industrial Court has imposed a temporary injunction preventing Kenya Airways from cutting jobs following an application by the Aviation and Allied Workers Union, which argued that the airline had not yet fully explored other cost-cutting measures.
Kenya Airways introduced a voluntary early retirement initiative at the beginning of August, after which it was planning to transition to mandatory redundancies if it had not received a sufficient number of volunteers. The airline is now prevented from doing so. The court will issue its direction on September 21.
