Juneyao Air commenced its inaugural service between Shanghai and Sydney on December 17, 2024, increasing seat capacity from Sydney to mainland China to its highest ever level.
The airline will operate four direct services per week between the two cities, with operations increasing to daily during the 2025 Lunar New Year period, between January 29, 2025, and February 12, 2025.
“We are confident that the people of Sydney will appreciate this new direct service,” said Chengji Yu, president of Juneyao Air. “This service will allow passengers to connect through our Shanghai hub and beyond through our network."
In 2019, more than 1.8 million passengers travelled between Sydney and China, with almost half a million of these journeys linked directly to Shanghai.
Sydney is the first Australian destination served by Juneyao Air.
