JetBlue's chief executive Robin Hayes has warned the carrier will have to axe some flights from New York during summer 2023.
Hayes told TV business news broadcaster CNBC that the cuts would be needed due to Federal Aviation Administration staff shortages and the regulator's efforts to cut congestion in skies over New York.
The FAA has an air traffic controller training backlog that has left staff numbers in New York "below targets" with "increased delays" likely later in 2023.
“We don’t want to pull down flights. I’m sure no airline wants to pull down flights,” Hayes said. “But if we don’t cut them, the system is not going to be workable this summer.”
