Jet2 commences first flights from Gatwick

Jet2 has launched its first flights from London Gatwick ahead of the Easter holidays.

The airline said its inaugural flight to Tenerife was fully booked. This first flight was followed by another flight to Alicante.

The airline said it launched operations at the airport following “years of demand from customers”.

“Since going on sale, we have experienced phenomenal demand from customers and independent travel agents, and we are looking forward to a hugely successful future from our newest UK airport base,” said Jet2 CEO Steve Heapy.

“The launch of 29 new routes and the creation of more than 300 jobs demonstrate the strength of demand for travel from our airport and the confidence airlines have in London Gatwick as a place to grow,” said London Gatwick CEO Pierre-Hugues Schmit.

The airline and package holiday provider also hosted the UK minister for aviation, maritime and decarbonisation Keir Mather at its dedicated maintenance hangar at Leeds Bradford Airport.

Mather's visit was to “understand more about how the facility plays a key role” in the company's operations.
