Jeju Air reports a 26.3% drop in second-quarter revenue

South Korean low-cost carrier Jeju Air has reported a 26.3% drop in second-quarter revenue for 2025, hit by weaker demand and a decline in both passenger traffic and flight operations.

The airline posted revenue of 315.4bn Korean won ($239 million) for the quarter ending June 30, down from 427.8bn won ($316.6 million) that was recorded during the same period of last year. Ancillary revenue also declined sharply, falling 32.4% on the prior year.

Operating loss widened to 45bn ($34 million), compared with a smaller loss in the same quarter last year. However, Jeju Air said it had narrowed its net loss to 12bn won ($9.1 million).

Passenger numbers fell 10.6% on 2024 to 3 million, while the total number of flights declined 10.1% to 18,116. The carrier operated 3.4 million seats during the quarter, down 7.9% from the year prior.

Since the crash of a Jeju Air flight at Muan International Airport in December 2024, the airline has reduced the number of flights it operates.

Jeju Air flight 2216, which was travelling from Bangkok to Muan in the southwest of South Korea, crashed after skidding off the airport's runway and colliding with a concrete wall following a belly landing. The accident resulted in the deaths of all passengers on-board and all but two crew members, who were seated at the rear of the aircraft.

Despite a challenging quarter, Jeju Air expanded its fleet by one aircraft to a total of 43. Load factor, a key measure of airline efficiency, slipped 2.7 percentage points to 88.2%, with domestic flights averaging 91.7% and international flights at 86%.
