Israel briefly reopened its airspace on June 22, 2025, and resumed further flight operations on June 23, 2025, to accommodate tens of thousands of travellers seeking to leave or return to the country.
Israel’s Airports Authority stated that there will be 24 daily rescue flights to a number of destinations globally. Ben Gurion Airport in Tel Aviv conducted rescue landings for a total of six hours on June 22, while Haifa Airport in northern Israel was also operational.
Thousands of Israelis have been stranded abroad as conflict between the country and Iran continues to escalate, with vast swathes of airspace over the Middle East deserted.
The country’s flag-carrier El Al said that approximately 25,000 request forms for outbound flights had been submitted on the airline’s website since registration opened on June 21, 2025.
According to government-approved framework, there will be a limit of 50 passengers per flight. Additionally, under the guidelines, passengers departing from Israel will not be allowed to return to the country for at least 21 days.
Flights will operate to London, Paris, Athens, Rome, Larnaca, New York, Los Angeles and Bangkok. Currently, passengers can only book flights on El Al from July 15, 2025.
