Free Wi-Fi has become a common norm across the globe, but free Wi-Fi onboard an airline is a welcome change, and Delta Airlines is all set to explore this avenue. According to a report by the Wall Street Journal, the airline is expected to offer free wireless internet service on its fleet starting in 2023.
Although there is no official comment on the report from the airline, sources have claimed that the airline is in the process of testing Wi-Fi infrastructure with various offerings to select customers on select routes. These customers will then be notified of the onboard free Wi-Fi option.
As of now the airline offers Wi-Fi passes and monthly subscriptions for customers to purchase for use onboard.
Meanwhile Delta is not the only airline considering offering free onboard Wi-Fi services. In April 2021, Hawaiian Airlines has signed up Starlink to provide complimentary high-speed, low-latency broadband internet access onboard flights between the Hawaiian Islands and the US, Asia and Oceania. The product installation is expected to start on select aircraft in 2023.
