Ireland's transport minister Eamon Ryan said on March 3 that stopping drone flights around Dublin Airport will not be "as simple" as Ryanair chief executive Michael O'Leary claims.
Flights were stopped or diverted for around 30 minutes on March 2 after a drone was seen flying within five kilometres of the airport. It was the sixth such incident since the start of 2023 and led to three inbound Ryanair flights being diverted to Belfast and Shannon.
The minister said it could take "a number of weeks" to address the matter, after O'Leary had told Irish media earlier that stopping drone flights at the airport should be "relatively easy", citing systems in place at airports in the UK and the Netherlands.
