Iraqi Airways reportedly adding 31 new aircraft by 2027

The Iraqi Ministry of Transport has released a plan to modernise Iraqi Airways’ fleet by purchasing new aircraft, local media has reported.

According to the Iraqi News Agency (INA), the airline has taken delivery of 13 new aircraft, while an additional 14 previously grounded jets have been returned to service.

These 13 aircraft, include five A220s, six 737 MAX aircraft and two 787-8 jets.

A spokesperson for the country’s Ministry of Transport told the media outlet that the ministry has developed a “comprehensive plan” to increase the number of aircraft through contracts with international airlines.

The ministry spokesperson stated that eight additional Dreamliners and 10 MAX aircraft will be delivered to the airline, increasing the total number of modern aircraft purchased by Iraqi Airways to 31 by 2027.

Iraqi Airways took delivery of its first 787 in 2023, in an attempt to grow its long-haul destinations.
