Canberra Airport will soon see the resumption of international flights with the first flight from Fiji Airways. The airlines have confirmed its plans to start direct flights with Nadi using a Boeing 737 jet.

Full details, including flight times and frequency of service, will be revealed in a press conference on Friday, April 14, 2023 when a Fiji Airways jet flies into Canberra for the official announcement.  The occasion will also include officials from the Australian and Fijian governments, including the Chief Minister of the Australian Capital Territory (ACT), Andrew Barr.

ACT Chief Minister, Barr travelled to Fiji late last year to meet the airline's chief executive and Nadi airport staff to discuss the possibility of direct flights from Canberra.

Airline officials hope Canberrans will use this service for stops in Nadi as they make their way to the US. A direct flight between the cities is likely to take four to five hours.

Fiji Airways already flies to Brisbane, Sydney, Melbourne and Adelaide.

Meanwhile, Qatar Airways has pushed back its service resumption to Canberra, while Singapore Airlines has hinted at a possible return sometime in the future. Qantas is also expected to add new routes to Canberra as it rebuilds capacity and adds to its fleet.
