IndiGo welcomes its second wet leased B777 from Turkish Airlines

IndiGo welcomed its second Boeing 777 on a wet lease from Turkish Airlines. The aircraft will be deployed on the Mumbai-Istanbul route. The widebody aircraft comes with a 400-passenger seating in a two-class configuration.

IndiGo already flies a 777 between Delhi and Istanbul, and the second aircraft will connect Mumbai with Istanbul from May 17.

Pieter Elbers, Chief Executive Officer, IndiGo, commented: “We are pleased to induct our second Boeing 777 aircraft on damp lease, which will operate on the Mumbai-Istanbul route … Istanbul is a key stop connecting 33 European destinations via our codeshare connectivity. The new aircraft will not only increase capacity on the route but also help in keeping the fares affordable.”

Through its codeshare partnership with Turkish IndiGo serves 33 destinations in the continent, with the latest addition being Edinburgh.

There is also speculation that the airline could place an order for widebody planes in the near future, with reports suggesting that it is in conversations with both Boeing and Airbus regarding this.

Meanwhile, the airline is about to reveal its Q4 financial results soon. IndiGo’s Q3 profits stood at $172.8 million, an almost 11-fold increase on the year before.
