The Karnataka government is looking at Rs 10,000 crore investments in the aerospace sector by the end of next year, a top official has confirmed.
"From the present Rs 5,000 crore in aerospace sector, we are looking at Rs 10,000 crore investment in the aerospace sector by the end of next year," V P Baligar, Principal Secretary to Commerce & Industries Department told reporters, ahead of the Aero India show.
To give further impetus to aerospace sector, the state government is setting up Bangalore Aerospace Park (BAP) in 985 acres, adjacent to Bangalore International Airport (BIA) which would comprise of 252 acres SEZ, an initiative of joint task force on Aerospace with CII Karnataka, he said. A technology innovation centre and also country specific aerospace clusters were proposed in this facility. An in-principle approval for a direct connection between BIAL and BAP has been announced with 60 acres allotted to BIAL for cargo handling for aerospace, Baligar said. A total of 28 aerospace companies including HAL, Dynamic Aerospace Company, BEML and aerospace division of Wipro have already been allotted land in the BAP, he added.
