The International Federation of Air Line Pilots’ Association (IFALPA) is closely monitoring the developments related to the accident at Japan’s Haneda Airport in Tokyo. Japan Airlines’ A350-900 aircraft collided with a DHC-8 aircraft on the runway, operated by the Japanese Coastguard, which was providing earthquake relief for the country.

Five of the six passengers onboard the DHC-8 aircraft were tragically killed in the accident while all 379 people (367 passengers and 12 crew) onboard Japan Airlines 516 flight were evacuated safely.

IFALPA said it has reached out to the Japanese Air Line Pilots’ Association and will be assisting relevant accident investigations to help gather information. It added that speculation of the event should be avoided, and the investigation should follow provisions laid out in the ICAO Annex 13.
