Wizz Air confirms first XLR route

Wizz Air has confirmed the first route for its incoming A321XLR aircraft. The airline will operate the extra long range aircraft with direct flights direct between Milan and Abu Dhabi. The route will begin operations from June 2, 2025, as a daily service. The airline claimed the route will operate on fares that are ""70% lower than the current competitors' offer"", leveraging the aircraft's extended range and efficiency. ""The Airbus A321XLR is the most cost-efficient aircraft of its class and, given the enhanced range capability, it enables Wizz Air to connect the furthest destinations in its network and further expand it, connecting cultures and continents,"" said Wizz Air CEO József Váradi. In addition, the aircraft will be based at Milan Malpensa, which the airline said is part of its commitment to strengthening its Italian network. The low-cost carrier is anticipating the delivery of eight A321XLR in 2025, with 47 total on order.
