The International Air Transport Association (IATA) and the Smart Freight Centre (SFC) have announced a partnership to provide what IATA terms ‘consistent and transparent C02 emissions calculations for air cargo shipments’, working together to develop the cargo component of IATA’s C02 Connect offering.
“Our partnership with the Smart Freight Center will help us to accelerate the development of CO2 Connect for air cargo as the most authoritative tool for carbon calculations. This is important for airlines, shippers and their customers who all need accurate calculations based on real data to support their contributions to global decarbonization efforts,” said Frederic Leger, IATA’s senior vice president for commercial products and services.
IATA and SFC will now work with Kuehne+Nagel as a pilot customer before the solution is rolled out in Q4 2024.
