Hong Kong Airlines, China Eastern Airlines, and Beijing Capital are all set to resume operations to Maldives. Hong Kong Airlines has acquired flight slots from January 1, 2023 through the end of March 2023 with three weekly flights.
Beijing Capital will operate four charter flights from January 18, 2023 to February 22, 2023 with an average of 300 passengers per flight.
Prior to pandemic, Maldives was one of the most in-demand tourist destination for Chinese travellers. In 2019, the Ministry of Tourism of Maldives reported an annual total of 280,000 Chinese arrivals, which was 17% of the total tourists visiting that year.
Now, with China easing its pandemic restrictions, Maldives expects 10% rise in the annual tourist arrivals.
