Hawaiian Airlines (HAL) pilots and the carrier's management have reached a tentative agreement on a new four-year contract, with an average 32.9% pay increase and industry-leading pay for pilots operating cargo flights for Amazon.
The deal means current "industry-leading rates for the carrier’s new cargo operation" and adds a signing bonus, raises company retirement contributions, a new health reimbursement account, increased schedule flexibility, according to the Air Line Pilots Association, International (ALPA), which represented the airline's approximately 1,000 pilots in the talks.
“We believe this industry-standard agreement represents a monumental step forward in terms of overall compensation and quality of life gains,” said HAL ALPA master executive eouncil chair Larry Payne.
HAL is to start flying cargo for Amazon in 2024. ALPA said the pay deal means pilots involved are to be paid more than counterparts at UPS and Fedex Express.
