The government of Greenland will take 100% control of its national airline.
Naalakkersuisut, the Greenland government, has said that it will acquire Scandinavian Airlines' (SAS) 37.5% and the Danish government's 25% shareholdings in Air Greenland.
It's reported that the Greenland government will pay DKK277 million ($41.3 million) for SAS stake, marking the end to the airline's shareholding in the carrier which dates back to 1960.
In a statement, the Greenland government said: "Air Greenland will continue to operate as a healthy business and solve the tasks of passenger transport in, to and from Greenland, as an important part of the Greenlandic infrastructure.”
“Naalakkersuisut would like to thank the Danish state and SAS for the many years of joint ownership and cooperation on the management of Air Greenland,” the government of Greenland said.
As part of its fleet, Air Greenland operates the Airbus A330, Bombardier Dash-8-200, Super King Air, Sikorsky 61N, Eurocopter AS 350 and Bell 212.
