Aegean Airlines was forced to cancel all domestic and international flights on April 9, 2025, following 24-hour strike action by Greek air traffic controllers.
The airline said that cancellations were caused after of the Hellenic Air Traffic Controllers Association participated in a 24-hour general strike organised by the federation of Greek public sector trade unions, ADEDY.
The union called this strike action in response to scrapped employee bonuses and demands for wage increases.
No flights departed from Greece's busiest airport, Athens International on April 9, following a statement released a day earlier, confirming that all flights would be grounded during the strike action.
This latest strike action follows a walkout by air traffic controllers in February, which was part of a larger nationwide strike across Greece is in response to the country’s deadliest rail disaster that occurred two years ago.
