Global flight cancellations down during September shows new data from Cirium

Data collected by Cirium shows that global flight cancellations were down by 11% during the month of September – with 47,324 cancellations – in comparison to 52,931 during August. 

Looking at airline performance during the month the data showed that Aeromexico was the global leader when it came to monthly on-time performance (OTP). 

The Mexican carrier had an OTP for September of 91.13%, an increase of almost five points in comparison to its OTP from August which was 86.54%. Saudia, Avianca, Delta and Qatar followed in terms of the most on-time airlines during the month.

Moving across to global regions, - data showed that In September the Asia-Pacific region saw a 22% rise in flight cancellations - reaching 28,027. In contrast North America recorded a 66% drop in cancellations, with only 6,001 flights cancelled during the month.

Additionally Europe experienced an 11% increase in cancellations, Latin America saw little change and the Middle East and Africa saw a 22% rise in cancellations.

For the month, GOL remained the most on-time low-cost carrier globally, with an OTP of 86.70%, a slight increase from August’s OTP of 85.41%.
