Global air cargo rates and demand remain strong throughout August

Worldwide air cargo demand and pricing has remained strong throughout August. Tonnages were up 10% and rates up 12% over the same month last year, according to WorldACD market data.

Compared to the previous month, total flown chargeable weight dipped slightly by 2%, while average yields were up marginally by 1% to $2.49 per kilo.

Prices from Asia Pacific origins were somewhat flat in August, rising only 1% compared with July, to $3.26 per kilo. However, it marks a 22% increase over August last year. Middle East & South Asia (MESA) origins rose by 3% from the previous month to an average $2.81 per kilo - also marking a 58% increase over August last year.

Both Asia Pacific and MESA regions saw tonnages slip slightly in August when compared to July, at 3% and 2%, respectively. However, they remain above August 2023 levels at 13% and 10% higher.
