Ghana to launch flag carrier ‘GhanaAirlines’ in 2023

The Government of Ghana is all set to launch a new national airline. The airline will be named GhanaAirlines and will be based at Accra’s Kotoka International Airport (ACC) with official launch planned in 2023.

The announcement was made by the Finance Minister of Ghana in the parliament. He said: “Shareholders and partnership agreements were signed with the selected strategic partner for the home-based carrier, which will be known as GhanaAirlines. The airline is expected to be operationalized in 2023.”

Ghana has been without a flag carrier since the closure of Ghana Airways in 2004 followed by Ghana International Airlines in 2010. Currently the largest operator in Ghana is the Africa World Airlines followed by Passion Air.

The government has selected Ashanti Airlines as its strategic partner. Ashanti Airlines recently secured its Air Carriers Licence and is now in the process of securing the Air Operator's Certificate (AOC).
