Frankfurt Airport (FRA) served more than six million passengers in July 2023, recording highest passenger traffic since the COVID-19 pandemic, with a 20% increase over the same period last year. In spite of reporting one of its busiest months since pandemic, the final tally was 13% below its pre-pandemic levels.
With two passenger terminals, the airport serves nearly 70 million annual passengers to 300 destinations worldwide. The airport recorded 40,626 aircraft movements, takeoffs and landings in July, a more than 16% increase over the same period last year.
FRA also saw a slight increase in cargo traffic with 164,503 metric tons of cargo, a 2.3% increase over July 2022.
Fraport International group also showed a significant increase in passenger numbers during the 2023 summer season.
Fortaleza (FOR) and Porto Alegre (POA) served a combined passenger volume of 1.2 million, up by 3% as compared to last year. Similarly, Ljubljana Airport (LJU) in Slovenia welcomed just under 150,000 passengers in July, an increase of 20% over the year before.
Lima Airport (LIM) in Peru welcomed nearly two million passengers, a 13% increase over July 2022. The 14 regional airports in Greece registered a total of 6.2 million passengers, a growth of over 8% since last year. The two airports in Bulgaria, Burgas (BOJ) and Varna (VAR) served 810,866 passengers in July, an 8.8% increase over last year and Antalya Airport (AYT) welcomed 5.5 million passengers, a 10.2% increase over last year.
The total passenger volume increased by nearly 12% year-over-year in July 2023 across all airports actively managed by the Fraport Group. The total number of passengers registered in the reviewed month was 21.8 million.
