Flight Safety Foundation to open centre in Singapore

The US-based Flight Safety Foundation is setting up a new Asia Pacific Centre for Aviation Safety in Singapore.

The centre is "to help aviation stakeholders in the Asia-Pacific region raise safety standards and capabilities to restart and ramp up operations safely as air travel recovers to pre-pandemic levels", the FSF said in a March 22 statement.

The centre is to be supported by the Civil Aviation Authority of Singapore (CAAS) and will "develop an annual work programme to meet the needs of regulators and industry in the region and undertake projects and studies to provide a deeper understanding of safety challenges and build capabilities in technology, data analytics and safety management processes".

The FSF said the establishment of the centre was announced by S Iswaran, Singapore’s transport minister, at the inaugural Asia Pacific Summit for Aviation Safety, which is being held in the city-state and jointly-run by the FSF and CAAS.

Former pilot and executive with the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) executive Mitchell A Fox will be the centre's director.
