Finnair reports July 2019 traffic performance

Finnair carried 1.45 million passengers in July 2019, 12.4% more than in the corresponding period of 2018 - marking the highest number ever monthly number for Finnair.

Its overall capacity measured in Available Seat Kilometres (ASK) increased in July by 10.7%. Finnair's traffic measured in Revenue Passenger Kilometres (RPKs) increased by 12.2%, and the Passenger Load Factor (PLF) increased year-on-year by 1.2% points to 89.6%.  

Finnair’s long-haul capacity increased year-on-year with three new A350 aircraft that entered the service in December 2018, in February 2019 and in April 2019.

The ASK growth in Asian traffic was 12.1%, mainly due to additional frequencies to Hong Kong and Osaka. The North American capacity increased by 29.2% following the addition of the new Los Angeles opened in March.  

In European traffic the ASKs were up by 5.8%. The growth derived from one new narrow-body aircraft year-on-year and additional seating capacity in some of the existing narrow-body aircraft.

The added capacity was allocated to destinations such as Stockholm, St Petersburg, London and Moscow and new seasonal destinations Hannover, Trondheim and Bologna. Capacity in domestic traffic increased by 8.8%, mainly due Tampere airport, which was partly closed during July 2018.

RPKs increased in Asian traffic
by 11.2%, in North American traffic by 27.4%, in European traffic by 10.4% and
in domestic traffic by 10.1%. The PLF was 90.0% in Asian traffic, 92.6% in
North American traffic, 89.5% in European traffic and 69.6% in domestic
traffic.

Passenger numbers increased in
Asian traffic by 10.8%, in North American traffic by 21.5%, in European traffic
by 12.6% and in domestic traffic by 10.3%.

Available scheduled cargo tonne kilometres increased by 15.1% year-on-year. Revenue scheduled cargo tonne kilometres increased by 4.2%. Decline in the global cargo market was evident in July’s cargo performance, the airline says.

In July 78.4% of all Finnair flights arrived on schedule.
