Finnair carried a total of 1.15 million passengers this July, an 8.7% increase when compared to July 2023.
The increase in passenger traffic during July follows on from the airlines second quarter figures. ""We carried 3.0 million passengers in April–June and revenue for the period increased by 2.3 per cent driven by higher ancillary and cargo revenue,"" said Tomi Lindell, senior manager of investor relations at Finnair. ""However, unit revenue (RASK) decreased by 3.9% in the quarter.""
The airlines overall capacity measured in available seat kilometres (ASK) increased during the month by 9%, in comparison to July of the previous year – this was due to additional narrow-body capacity being deployed by the airline after wet lease cuts to British Airways ended in March.
Traffic measured in revenue passenger kilometres (RPK’s) increased by 7.3% compared to July 2023 to €2.92 billion. RPKs increased in Asian traffic by 8.9%, by 11.2% in North Atlantic traffic, by 7% in European traffic. RPKs increased by 5% in domestic traffic and decreased by 4.5% in Middle East traffic.
Total cargo tonnes increased by 15.8% in July due to growth in all traffic areas exclusive of domestic traffic. Revenue cargo tonne kilometres also increased by 16.9%.
