Finnair carried 1.14 million passengers in July, down 2% from the same month last year, as growth in long-haul routes was offset by declines in European, Middle Eastern and domestic traffic, the airline said.
Passenger numbers rose on North Atlantic and Asian routes, supported by increased frequencies to Los Angeles, Seattle, Chicago and Dallas in the US, as well as Osaka, Nagoya and Shanghai in Asia.
However, regional and domestic routes saw lower demand, with reduced frequencies to Lapland and the end of certain Middle Eastern services weighing on the total.
The Finnish flag carrier resumed normal operations in early July following industrial action, with flight regularity rebounding to over 99% for the rest of the month.
Finnish airport strikes ended after the Service Sector Employers Palta and the Finnish Aviation Union (IAU) reached a deal on July 13, 2025.
These walkouts stemmed from a dispute over pay increases between the IAU and the service sector employers group Palta.
Capacity, measured in available seat kilometres (ASK) during July, rose 2% on July 2024, while traffic in revenue passenger kilometres (RPK) increased by 1.2%. Average load factor fell slightly by 0.6 percentage points to 82.9%.
Cargo volumes continued to decline, with total freight down 12.7% and revenue cargo tonne kilometres falling 9.3%, reflecting weaker demand in the Asian, European and Middle Eastern markets.
Finnair said the end of its cooperation with Qatar Airways on routes between Stockholm, Copenhagen and Doha in January contributed to lower capacity and cargo performance in the Middle East.
