Saudi Arabian Airlines is expected to announce membership of one of the three largest airline alliances as it reaches the final stages of negotiation.
“The final arrangements for joining the alliance will be completed within a short period,” says General Khaled Al-Molhem, director general of Saudi Arabian Airlines. “We have received positive signals from member airlines thanks to Saudia’s international reputation and its strategic geographic position.”
Al-Molhem hopes the move will allow the airline a greater reach into the world network make use of the networks of member airlines and strengthen its competitive position. He also stated that the airline was ready to meet the stringent requirements of membership demanded by Star Alliance, Oneworld and SkyTeam.
The Saudi airline has a strategic plan to intensify its presence in various parts of the world and the purchase of 82 modern aircraft Al-Molhem hopes will strengthen the airline’s position to join the alliances. It is also striving to modernize its technical infrastructure.
