The European Commission has closed interim proceedings against Lufthansa, as part of an antitrust investigation into the carrier.
In January, the commission said that it would order Lufthansa to reinstate leisure airline Condor's access to Lufthansa's short-haul network, allowing Condor to feed traffic into its Frankfurt to New York service.
Interim proceedings were initiated within a broader investigation into whether a transatlantic joint venture between Lufthansa, United Airlines, and Air Canada would restrict competition on routes from Europe. This broader investigation began on August 7, 2024.
The commission said the German-flag carrier should restore arrangements made in June 2024, that provided feeder traffic to Condor to and from Frankfurt, which was no longer in effect as of December.
However, following further consideration of all available evidence, the commission said it decided to close its interim measures proceedings on the basis that not all of the legal conditions for ordering interim measures were met.
“This comes without prejudice to the ongoing investigation in the main proceedings,” the commission added.
