Etihad reports record half year profit

Etihad Airways reported a record profit after tax totalled 1.1bn dirhams ($300 million) for the first half of the year, marking a 32% increase on the same period last year. Profit margin was 8%, up one percentage point.

“Our strong financial performance and continued passenger growth demonstrate the success of our strategy and the dedication of our people," said Etihad Airways CEO Antonoealdo Neves. "We are expanding sustainably, investing in premium experiences, and bringing record numbers of visitors to Abu Dhabi through our growing network.”

Revenues were up 16% to 13.5bn dirhams ($3.6bn), including passenger revenues up 16% to 11.3bn dirhams ($3.07bn) and cargo revenues up 9% to 2bn dirhams ($552.5 million). 

EBITDA improved 24% to 2.7bn dirhams ($740 million), with an EBITDA margin of 20%, up one percentage point. 

Capacity during the first half of the year was up 14%, while passenger numbers were up 17% to 10.2 million. Passenger load factor improved two percentage points to 87%.
