Emirates is set to increase its capacity across Africa, introducing additional flights to a number of destinations on the continent. Destinations that are set to receive additional flights include Entebbe, Uganda, Addis Abba and Johannesburg.
“Africa has long been a priority region for Emirates, and we will deepen our strategic focus of expansion and continued investment on the continent, as an important anchor for our future network,” said Adnan Kazim, Emirates’ deputy president and chief commercial officer.
Kazim added: “Over the last 30 years Emirates has played a pivotal role in the development of the region’s aviation and tourism sectors, not just through scaling our operations but by establishing strategic partnerships with local governments, tourism boards and likeminded airline partners across the travel ecosystem, to nurture the industry and realise its untapped potential.”
Emirates has already increased its operations between Dubai and Uganda, boosting its service from five weekly flights to daily flights from October 27, 2024. The route is operated using a Boeing 777-300ER, will add 718 seats per week to the Dubai-Entebbe service.
Additionally, Emirates plans to increase services to Ethiopia, with a daily flight connecting Dubai and Addis Ababa starting January 1, 2025. This will be followed by the introduction of a fourth daily flight to Johannesburg, which will include a morning service from March 1, 2025, to South Africa’s largest international airport.
This announcement follows Emirates’ return to Lagos earlier this month
