Emirates has ordered an additional 65 Boeing 777-9 aircraft on the opening day of the Dubai Airshow 2025 (November 17).

The order is valued at $38bn at list price. The airline signed a deal with GE Aerospace the same day for 130 GE9X engines to power the aircraft. The engine deal also includes spare engines and a long-term services agreement.

“Each of our aircraft on order has been carefully factored into Emirates’ expansion plan, which is aligned to Dubai’s growth plans,” said Emirates chairman and CEO Ahmed Bin Al Maktoum.

With another round of 777X orders, Emirates now has 270 units of the 777X in its orderbook. The company's Boeing orderbook also includes 10 777 freighters and 35 787s, bringing its Boeing widebody orderbook to 315 aircraft.

“Flying a young and modern fleet with innovative cabin products has always been a cornerstone of Emirates’ strategy, and we look forward to working closely with Boeing to receive delivery of our first 777-9s from Q2 of 2027,” said Al Maktoum.

The deal also saw Emirates sign up for options to convert its latest order to the larger variant, the 777-10, or the 777-8.

Al Maktoum said Emirates “fully supports Boeing's feasibility study" in its development of the larger 777-10.

“Emirates has been open about the fact that we are keen for manufacturers to build larger capacity aircraft, which are more efficient to operate especially with projected air traffic growth and increasing constraints at airports,” said Al Maktoum.

The 777X programme has faced several delays, with Boeing recently pushing back the first delivery target of the aircraft type to 2027.

With today's order, Emirates has deliveries from Boeing all the way up to 2038.

Emirates has operated every model of the 777 family in its 40-year history.

The Dubai-based airline also has an orderbook with Airbus for 65 A350-900s, with it receiving its first A350 last year. Of these, Emirates still has 52 of the aircraft type to be delivered.

The Dubai Airshow 2025 will run through the end of this week.
