Ireland's newest carrier Emerald Airlines has reached the million-passenger milestone 11 months after launching.

The landmark number was achieved on a January 16 Dublin - Southampton flight by the airline, which is the exclusive operator of the Aer Lingus regional network.

“Today is a tremendous milestone for us at Emerald Airlines," said executive chairman Conor McCarthy. "Having only operated our very first flight less than 12 months ago, to have just welcomed our one millionth passenger in such a short time frame is a really great achievement by the whole team here at Emerald. We wish the Brady family a really enjoyable trip and we look forward to welcoming them on board many times more in the future,” McCarthy added.

The carrier recently announced new routes from Belfast to Jersey and Newquay. It aims to be operating 580 flights a week on 25 routes by summer 2023, after recent increases in frequency on busy connections such as Dublin to Glasgow and Belfast to Manchester.
