Embraer is competing to supply Moroccan airline Royal Air Maroc with its aircraft, Reuters reported, citing a source familiar with negotiations.
The Moroccan carrier is reportedly looking to expand and renew its fleet in three size categories, with Embraer aiming to tie up an order in the smallest, the source said.
This follows earlier reports made by Brazilian newspaper Folha de S.Paulo that Royal Air Maroc was in talks with several suppliers, including Embraer, to purchase up to 200 aircraft. Embraer's second-generation E2 jet family is being considered by the airline, Folha reported, citing the carrier's CEO.
In June it was also stated that the airline is in talks with Boeing for “dozens” of jets to renew its current fleet, though Airbus is also planning to get a smaller order of around 20 A220 aircraft from the airline.
Fleet modernisation comes at a time of great change for Moroccan aviation, as the country plans to invest $1.56bn in building a new terminal building at Casablanca’s Mohammed V airport.
