Embraer unveiled what it said were "new aircraft concepts" during a December 5 update on its contribution to "getting the aviation industry to net-zero by 2050".
The 19 and 30 seater design offer, the Brazilian aerospace business said, "a technically realistic and economically feasible pathway to net-zero", but remain "at the evaluation phase". Net-zero remains a challenging target, the company admitted.
The two concept jets are bigger variants of what were first broached as nine and 19-seaters in 2021. They are to use rear-mounted engines powered by parallel hybrid-electric propulsion and would yield "up to 90% CO2 emissions reduction when using SAF [sustainable aviation fuel]".
Arjan Meijer, president and chief executive of Embraer Commercial Aviation, said he believes the company has "set bold but realistic goals for these concepts to come to market".
