El Al will suspend its operations to Moscow until the end of March, a decision made in the wake of the recent crash of Azerbaijan Airlines flight 8243.
This announcement comes after the Israeli carrier had previously suspended flights on this route for a week on December 27, 2024.
The Times of Israel reported the decision was made by the airline after comprehensive assessment of the situation. “El Al is suspending all its flights on the Tel Aviv-Moscow route until the end of the winter schedule. El Al is in dialogue with the country's authorities to understand the situation," said a spokesperson for the airline.
El Al joins a number of airlines that have reduced services to Russia in the past week, including flydubai Kazakhstan’s Qazaq Air, and Azerbaijan Airlines.
Azerbaijan claims that the Embraer E190 aircraft was struck by a Russian missile near Grozny and that it was denied permission for emergency landings at two Russian airports before eventually crashing.
Flights operated by El Al between Tel Aviv and Moscow are expected to resume of April 1, 2025.
