easyJet may set up a holding company based in Europe if the United Kingdom votes to leaves the European Union on June 23. In common with other UK-based airlines, easyJet has expressed its desire to remain in the EU.
"We would in the first instance push for the UK to remain part of the single aviation area which would ensure consumers continue to enjoy the benefits of easy and affordable travel across Europe and that easyJet can continue to operate as it does today," said a spokesperson for the airline.
EasyJet would need to acquire an air operator's certificate in an EU country, although the carrier is reported by a UK newspaper to have examined making use of its Swiss air operator's certificate and its easyJet Switzerland subsidiary as part of its contingency planning.
