Dubai International Airport welcomed 23.4 million passengers during the first quarter of the year, with traffic up 1.5% on the same period of the year prior.

The airport said during January, it saw its highest monthly traffic ever recorded - accommodating 8.5 million passengers.

India remained Dubai International Airport’s top destination in the first quarter, with three million passengers, followed by Saudi Arabia with 1.9 million and the UK with 1.5 million, the airport operator said.

Paul Griffiths, CEO of Dubai Airports commented: “Delivering the busiest month in airport’s history while maintaining exceptional service levels cross baggage, guest flow, and accessibility is no small feat. It requires precision, agility, and an extraordinary team effort,”

Despite passenger traffic gains, cargo volumes at the airport fell 3.6% on last year during the quarter, with the hub handling 517,000 tonnes.
