Delta Air Lines CEO Ed Bastian said demand for its international routes is growing faster than its domestic demand, Reuters reported. Bastian added that it is seeing healthy demand overall, with its second quarter 2024 revenues expected to be up 5%-7% year-on-year (YoY), driven by strong summer ticket sales.
Bastian said its international business is ""quite strong"" with consumers more willing to spend on travel post-pandemic.
Delta's first quarter 2024 net profit had posted an impressive $37 million after swinging from a net loss of $363 million in the same financial period a year prior. Its adjusted operating revenue improved 6% YoY to $12.5bn.
Its rival American Airlines had seen its shares fall 15% last week after updating its second quarter 2024 guidance with its forecasted earnings per share (EPS) fell from a projected $1.15-$1.45 down to $1.00-$1.15. American said the supply chain issues in the domestic market is hurting its pricing power and, as a result, is slowing its seat capacity growth into the second half of the year.
