Spirit Airlines has appointed Dave Davis as the airline’s new president and chief executive officer, effective April 21, 2025.
Davis joins Spirit from Sun Country Airlines, where he served the airline's chief financial officer.
This appointment follows an announcement from the airline last week that former president and chief executive officer, Ted Christie, had stepped down from the company and its board of directors, effective April 7, 2025.
"I am thrilled to join Spirit at this critical time in the company's history," said Davis. "I look forward to working with the more than 11,000 Spirit team members to deliver value for our Guests, shareholders and the communities that we serve."
Additionally, Spirit has appointed Duncan Dee as senior vice president, corporate communications, with responsibility for all aspects of the internal and external communications of the airline.
Trey Urbahn will also serve as senior commercial advisor, to support and help guide all aspects of Spirit's commercial efforts including network, pricing and yield management, as well as the airline's onboard configurations and offerings.
"Spirit is pleased to welcome these new additions to our leadership team as the company continues to advance its transformation,” commented Robert Milton, chairman of Spirit.
These changes come just over one month after Spirit emerged from its financial restructuring on March 12, 2025, reducing its debt by around $795 million.
Spirit confirmed it will be moving ahead with its premium offerings, supported by a $350 million equity investment from existing investors. The company’s reorganisation plan was confirmed by a US bankruptcy court in February 2025, with “overwhelming support from a supermajority of the company’s loyalty and convertible noteholders”.
