DAN AIR passenger numbers climb 14% at Bacau, but 'lower than expected'

Romanian carrier DAN AIR transported 14% more passengers in its second year of operations at George Enescu International Airport in Bacau, the airline said today (December 16).

The airline carried a total of 235,000 passengers in the one-year period, but it added that this was lower than expected.

“This was largely the result of public policies at central administration level, which led to tax increases and reduced public investment,” said the carrier's CEO Matt Ian David.

“Additionally, inflation remained at high levels, translating into reduced purchasing power — an effect reflected in ticket sales that fell below our forecasts.”

David added that the results still show “clear demand from the local community for direct and efficient air connectivity in this region”.

The airline said it aims to consolidate its existing route network and optimise operational performance, with the carrier operating two aircraft from Bacau — one leased and one owned — to increase capacity through January 12, 2026.

“Efforts to further increase connectivity at Bacau International Airport are currently constrained by global supply chain limitations and the difficulty of adding new aircraft to the fleet, as major manufacturers are facing delivery delays of approximately seven years,” said David.
