Croatia Airlines reports widened loss for first half

Croatia Airlines reported an increased loss for the first half of 2025, as rising operating costs outpaced revenue growth during the six-month period.

The state-owned flag carrier posted a net loss of €18 million ($19.62 million), nearly double the €9.5 million ($10.36 million) loss recorded in the same period last year. Operating losses widened to €21.2 million ($23.11 million) from €9.5 million ($10.36 million), while EBIT fell to negative €13.4 million ($14.61 million) from negative €7.5 million ($8.18 million) a year prior.

Total revenue rose 8% on 2024 to €132.3 million ($144.21 million), but total costs rose by 14% to €150.3 million ($163.83 million).

The airline reported a drop in unit revenue by 8% to €1.08 ($1.18) per available ton-kilometre (ATK), while unit costs marginally increased by 1% to €1.29 ($1.41) per ATK. EBITDA remained flat at €2.5 million ($2.73 million).

The airline increased its average workforce during the first half of the year to 987 employees, up 4% from a year earlier, despite the financial losses. Croatia Airlines hired 17 new pilots, and 19 additional cabin crew members were hired to support summer operations.

Croatia Airlines is currently undergoing a fleet renewal process, including the introduction of A220 aircraft.

As of end-June 2025, Croatia Airlines operated a fleet comprising four A319s, two A320s, six Q400 turboprops — of which two are non-operational and pending return - and five 220 aircraft.

All aircraft are under long-term operational leases. The airline expects delivery of two additional A220s later this year, alongside the planned retirement of two Q400s and one A320.

The company did not provide full-year guidance but said in previous statements that it aims to strengthen operational performance through cost optimization and fleet modernisation.
