Civil Aviation Authority of Vietnam approves 28 daily flights ahead of Lunar new year

The Civil Aviation Authority of Vietnam (CAAV) has approved an additional 28 flights each day, equivalent to 5,600 seats per day, to meet the huge air travel demand in the run up to the Lunar New Year (Tet) holiday which starts on January 22, 2023.

The total number of additional flights is 280, with 56,000 seats during that period.

Just last week, the CAAV had submitted a proposal to the Ministry of Transport seeking permission to increase the total fleet size of Vietnamese airlines to 234 aircraft.

In the letter, the authority has stressed the importance of more aircraft to satisfy the demands during the upcoming lunar new year holiday. The letter also proposed that the airlines should be allowed to ramp up their capacity to meet passenger demands. The CAAV suggested that the number of fleets should not exceed 234, recorded as the highest mark during January 2020.

The CAAV estimates the domestic market to reach 45.5 million passengers in 2023, so that the number of aircraft required for that market alone is 182.
