Christmas flights out of UK airports up 33% compared to 2021

While Christmas 2022 departures from UK airports were set to be 14% below 2019, numbers will be up by a third on 2021, according to aviation analytics firm Cirium.

Almost 31,000 flights were scheduled to take off from British airports between December 21 to January 4, which according to Cirium equates to over 5.5 million seats.

While the projected number lags the last Christmas before the Covid pandemic, the 33% increase on 2021 shows "the continued recovery of the industry", Cirium said, listing Dublin, Amsterdam and Geneva among the most popular destinations.

EasyJet was named the biggest airline in terms of the number of departures, Cirium added, with Heathrow thee biggest airport, going by the same metric.
