China Airlines has increased its cargo capacity for Taiwan with scheduled eight dedicated 777F freighters to fly between Taipei and Christchurch throughout January 2021. The services will transport 800 tonnes of high-value exports, including fresh cherries, out of Christchurch with general cargo filling the inbound flights.
This direct flight aims to get the fresh produce to Asian markets as quickly as possible to command the highest prices.
Justin Watson, Chief Executive, Christchurch Airport, said: “The extra cargo flights are a great win for South Island exporters and we are thankful for the support from the government Maintaining International Air Connectivity scheme. We know our specialty foods are keenly sought after in offshore markets, so we are pleased to help get them overseas from here.”
The service to and from Taipei will continue on alternate days until January 19, 2023.
Air New Zealand also operates a range of cargo services out of Christchurch, with five Boeing 787 passenger aircraft as cargo flights continuing to Los Angeles and destinations in Asia five times per week for the next three months.
