CFM International has identified a potential problem and is therefore monitoring its Leap engines.
The engine maker has targeted a specific subset of Leap-1A engines used on the Airbus A320neo and Leap-1B engines used on Boeing 737 MAX.
The issue is said to be due to carbon build up, or deposits of evaporated fuel on fuel nozzles leading to uneven temperature flow regions within the combustion chamber exit plane and hot spots within the high-pressure turbine (HPT) - which can cause premature wear.
A statement released by CFM International said: “CFM continually monitors the fleet and we have a method to detect carbon build-up, enabling CFM and our customers to proactively manage the issue.”
