The Cathay Group, comprised of Cathay Pacific and HK Express, carried more than 28 million passengers during 2024, an increase in traffic of 30.7% when compared to figures from 2023.
Alongside an increase in passenger traffic, cargo capacity also increased over the year, with Cathay Cargo carrying a total of 1.5 million tonnes of freight, which was 11% higher than the whole of 2023.
“As a group, we made incredible progress in 2024, having successfully completed our two-year rebuild journey and reaching 100% of our pre-pandemic flights from January 2025,” said Lavinia Lau, chief customer and commercial officer.
Looking ahead, Lau emphasised that the airline group will remain “firmly focused” on further strengthening Hong Kong’s status as an aviation hub, noting that the company will add more flights and destinations for both passengers and cargo customers.
Looking at the month of December, Cathay Pacific carried just over 2.2 million passengers, an increase of 26.4% in comparison to December 2023. Passenger load factor also increased, rising by 3.6 percentage points to 84.8%.
During December, Cathay Pacific and HK Express together carried more than 100 thousand passengers in a single day - the most since the start of the groups rebuild.
